A Married Couple Becomes Dismayed With Their Excessive And Abusive Drinking And Ponders Whether They Display Any Signs Of Alcoholism
Angie and Lenny have been married for five years. They wanted to have some fun and excitement before they decided to have children and so they willfully created an incredibly exciting social life.
The basic problem, it needs to be emphasized, is that virtually everything they do to have fun is related to drinking. For example, all of the family get-togethers, dinner engagements, parties with friends, happy hours, and sporting events they frequent are associated with drinking.
If they were casual drinkers this wouldn't be a big problem. Due to the fact they drink quite heavily, nonetheless, they are beginning to observe some clearly identifiable alcohol-related issues in their lives.
As an illustration, just two days ago Lenny received a second DUI and has been showing up late for work because of alcohol-related health issues. In addition, Lenny's last two performance evaluations at his place of employment have been less than praiseworthy and he has started to fail to remember what he does or says the times that he drinks. Lastly, Lenny has been going through sleep-related problems and his family is starting to get nervous about his drinking difficulties.
In a similar manner, Angie has been feeling depressed about life and to manage these feelings, she has been drinking more intensely than any time in the past seven months. Not only this, but Angie has been experiencing quite a few painful migraines and experiencing terrible hangovers from drinking. Finally, Angie has been feeling considerably less active when she gets up in the morning, she has been getting to work late at least once per week, and she has been receiving some unkind criticism from her family members, coworkers, friends, and relatives about her abusive drinking.
One Wednesday evening while watching TV, Lenny and Angie went through the channels and discovered a captivating program about alcohol facts and alcoholism facts in general and about the signs of alcoholism in particular. This television documentary was a real source of discovery to Lenny and Angie because several of the alcohol facts that were gone over looked as if they were unshakably related to numerous drinking problems Angie and Lenny had been experiencing.
With thoughts of the TV special still fresh in her mind, Angie asked Lenny if some of the alcohol dependency signs they have been displaying could be a signal that they are alcoholic or conceivably becoming dependent on alcohol. Lenny didn't know the answer to Angie's question and so he suggested that they make an appointment with one of the therapists at the local drug and alcohol rehab center to find out more about the severity of their drinking circumstances.
Ironically, even though their drinking situation hadn't yet changed, it was apparent that Angie and Lenny were at the very least attending to their drinking problems, they were ready to find out more about their drinking circumstances, and they were interested in learning how they could significantly lessen or eliminate the alcohol-related issues that had begun to emerge.
When Lenny and Angie went to bed that night, they came to a decision that the next afternoon, Lenny would call and make an appointment for both of them at the alcohol rehab facility located just East of the State Capital. After they promised one another that they would do whatever it takes to conquer the drinking problems that had cropped up in their lives, they in point of fact had the best night's sleep they could think of in the last five months.
